5K run and 1 Mile walk scheduled

Skaggs Regional Medical Center has scheduled a 5K run and 1 mile fun walk, October 29, 8 a.m. along the Branson Landing, Branson, MO.  Proceeds benefit Skaggs Foundation, which helps to fund programs at Skaggs Regional Medical Center.

The title of the event is Run for your Life.  “This is a fun play on words since it’s so close to Halloween,” explains Lisa Marshall, Skaggs Wellness Coordinator.  “It also stresses the importance of adding walking and running to any exercise program for the benefit of your health.”

Participants are encouraged to dress in costume and compete in a costume contest.  Registration is $20 before the event and $25 at the event.  A family walk rate of $50 is available to a family of four, which includes two
t-shirts.  The first 75 participants who register will receive a free Run for your Life t-shirt.  Register at www.skaggs.net.  Packet pick up October 29 begins at 7 a.m.  Judges will view costumes at 7:30 a.m. in front of the fountain with the top three winners announced at the award ceremony.   Medals for race to be awarded to men and women in six age divisions: 14 years of age and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39,
40-49, 50 and up.

“Exercising for as little as 30 minutes a day can reduce your risk of certain chronic diseases,” says Marshall.  “With heart disease as the number one killer adding daily physical activity to your schedule is important.  Walking or changing up your exercise routine with a 5K challenge are just a few ways to jumpstart a workout program.”
