Antique fever to hit Eurekas Springs
The 16th Annual Spring Antique Show and Sale at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, takes place Saturday, Mar. 17 and Sunday, Mar. 18, with a Wine and Cheese preview show and sale Friday, Mar. 16, 5:30-7 p.m.
Promoter Dave and Jane Baker have come up each year with new twists to keep the event interesting, but after so many years of promoting antique shows, the Bakers know all about what they call “Antique Fever,” and the need for shoppers to cool it off with a stroll the show, and usually, a purchase.[adsenseyu1]
According to Dave Baker, the show is very popular with antique collectors, who attend from as many as 21 states; dealers come from as many as 14 states.
The show features a wide variety of items, and always presents some new trends in collecting.
For example, the Bakers also present a November show, and last fall’s showstopper was an unusual end table created from a tractor grill which sold within hours of the opening. Another eye-catcher, Baker said, was a food grinder converted into a lamp. Books, linens, primitives, jewelry and furniture from shabby chic to elegant line the aisles of the show. There is also a dealer who repairs pottery, china and porcelain pieces.
Although the show attracts serious buyers, there’s a light-hearted side to the show, too. A costumed Confederate soldier and Yankee soldier displayed their wares last fall. And another dealer with an eye for nostalgia brought restored malt and milk shake machines like the ones that graced the counter of the local drugstore.
The Bakers said they expect this year to be better than ever, and remind collectors that weekend lodging packages are available.
