Apple Market calls it quits in Branson

By Kathee Baird

Citing a downturn in the economy, competition and the bridge closing over Lake Taneycomo in downtown Branson, the owner’s of Apple Market have announced they will close the doors to the only grocery store downtown by the end of October.
The store, which celebrated it’s 40th anniversay in April, has been in Tony Breeden’s family since 1971.  His father-in-law bought it then and Breeden and his wife bought it from him in 1995.  The store, which now employes about 15 people, at one time employed over 30 in Branson’s boom days.
The last full day of business for the store will be October 18th followed by about two weeks of going out of business sales.
Breeden says when the bridge that leads to Hollister closed he lost about 20% of his customers.
