Branson Firefighters to help promote cancer awareness

Branson Firefighters will be joining other fire departments across the nation promoting cancer awareness in the month of October. The firefighters have taken this project on to show support, raise awareness, and help raise funds to find a cure.
“Cancer seems to affect every demographic group and family in our community,” said Branson Firefighter Brian Heppner. “Three years ago I lost my father to cancer. Now, one of our captains has a wife who has survived her second diagnosis of cancer this past year, and our administrative assistant, Jan Denega, is a cancer survivor even as her husband is being treated for melanoma, a form of skin cancer.”
One way firefighters will focus on cancer awareness is by changing the lettering on their duty t-shirts to pink with an added line “Firefighters for Cancer Awareness.” These t-shirts will be available for purchase at Fire Station #1 on Highway 76. All proceeds supporting the fire department’s fundraising efforts will go to the annual community Relay for Life event.
Also during October, the front bays of Fire Station #1 will be accented in pink lighting to help promote cancer awareness with a cancer awareness banner on the front lawn complete with imprints of a cancer ribbon featuring a fire hose and nozzle.
For more information, please contact Firefighter Brian Heppner at (417) 243-2780.
