Bridge, part of Highway 13 project, opens to traffic

Branson West resident Artie Ayres and Galena resident LeRoy Raiten were among the first to cross the new bridge.

The widening of Highway 13, between Branson West and Kimberling City is well underway with the southern portion of the project being worked on during evening and daytime hours. That section, which is inside the Kimberling City limits has been blasted and widening of a portion of the roadway to include a climbing lane will be the focus for the next few months.
The area which has faced the most controversy is the portion of the existing highway which will be bypassed upon completion of the widening project. There, a new bridge, which will allow travelers to access the bypassed section, opened last Friday for local traffic.
At a cost of approximately $1.5 million, the bridge will eventually connect the existing portion of the highway to the new, four-lane portion. It will exit the new highway and enter the bypassed area near the current location of Plaza Mart.
MoDot Project Manager, Linda Bokel, said the project is on schedule and is expected to be completed by December, 2012.
