Cassville to celebrate Civil War event as former Confederate Capitol of Missouri

 

The City of Cassville in Barry County is getting set to hold an event in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.
Cassville, which was once the seat of Missouri’s Confederate government, will hold the event on Oct. 29.
Cassville served from October 31 thru November 7 of 1861 as the Missouri capitol in exile for a few days under secessionist Gov. Claiborne Fox Jackson.
The event features: a camp breakfast; a march to the courthouse; music; a skit by local residents; a fashion show; food vendors; a pie-baking contest; and a reenactment inside the court house.  The event actually gets underway on Friday, Oct. 28. Here is a complete list of events and times:
October 28, 2011- Friday afternoon camps open to the public; & special activities.

Friday Evening–Mealtime.–(Meat, beans, cornbread and drinks served

for the 1st 100 Reenactors: by the BCG & H SOCIETY MEMBERS.)

October 29th

7:00 a.m.       SATURDAY MORNING  REVILLE.

7-8:30 a.m.   CAMP  BREAKFAST. (On their own) By Civil War personnel of their choosing.

9:00 a.m.       REENACTOR  OFFICERS’  CALL.

(Free to the public.)

9:00 a.m.       UNIT  DRILLS or Roll Call.

9:15 a.m.       CAMPS  OPEN  TO  PUBLIC.

9:45 a.m.       MARCH TO THE COURTHOUSE SQUARE.  (Arrive around 10:00-10:15 a.m.)

9:00 a.m.       MUSIC BY THE BACK PORCH PLAYERS.

10:00 a.m.    MUSIC, LOCAL SPEECHES & INTRODUCTIONS by Mayor Tracy Holle.

10:30 a.m.     SKIT by LOCAL FOLKS.

10:30 a.m.    Governor and some Officers arrive from the Bayless/Salyer House where

the Governor and his family have stayed and have been in conference.

10:45 a.m.     Narrator: (Dr. William Piston) will keep the audience informed and where to move quietly during the event.

Reenactment begins and as the legislators arrive and enter the courthouse to assemble for business.

12:00 12:30 Noon–Meeting adjourns

A Pie Baking Contest is scheduled at the Courthouse or nearby.

12:30            Lunch Vendors located nearby: Pie available by the slice.

1:30 p.m.      A Fashion Show of the period dress of the 1860’s.

Troops will be dismissed by Sterling Price after the fashion show.

Soldiers and civilians march down the Old Wire Road toward the South Park.
