Community invited to stroll Lake Taneycomo bridge
Work is nearing completion on the rehabilitation of the historic Lake Taneycomo bridge between Branson and Hollister, and the public will have an opportunity to walk on the bridge before it is opened to traffic.
The bridge is scheduled to be opened to traffic by the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 16, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The community Stroll-About on the bridge is set for 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. Representatives of MoDOT, the city of Branson and city of Hollister will be on hand to answer questions and give out a brochure about the bridge. [adsenseyu1]
The project also included building a new bridge over Lake Taneycomo, connecting Route 76/Business 65 to Branson Landing Boulevard between Hollister and Branson, and building a round-about on the Hollister side of the lake. The new bridge and round-about were opened to traffic in 2010 before the historic bridge was closed for rehabilitation.
Here’s a look at the community celebration for the two-year long, $12.2-million project:
* Historic Bridge Stroll-About — 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15
The bridge will be open to pedestrian traffic only.
People are invited to stroll along the historic bridge. MoDOT, city of Branson and city of Hollister representatives will be present to answer questions about the bridge and the rehabilitation project.
Anyone who wants to join in the informal Stroll-About must park at the south end of the Branson Convention Center parking lot (Sycamore Street at Branson Landing Boulevard formerly Long Street). People may walk to the bridge or a shuttle will be available between the parking lot and the historic bridge.
No parking will be allowed on Route 76/Business 65 near the historic bridge.
* Dedication Ceremony — 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov., 16, in the Fall Creek Room at the Branson Convention Center
Local government and state officials will gather for a ceremony that signals the completion of the project. The Branson Convention Center overlooks the project.
* Motorcade to Lead Opening of Bridge — 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, beginning at Branson Convention Center
Immediately following the dedication ceremony, officials will travel from the Branson Convention Center to the historic bridge in a motorcade made up of present day and antique vehicles.
Officials will cut a ribbon on the historic bridge. The motorcade then will drive across the historic bridge, through the round-about and across the new Branson Landing bridge.
Once the motorcade travels through the project, the historic bridge will be open to traffic.
