COMMUNITY SUPPORTED NEW THRIFT STORE IN NIXA LOOKING FOR LOCATION OR SPACE TO SHARE
Can a new tire or a battery be the difference between keeping a roof over your head and food on the table? You bet!
On the Road Again Thrift Store want to help one of the most consistent barriers families face, that’s transportation. “If you car isn’t working, you can’t get to work, you can’t earn a paycheck. You may not be able to take your children to school, or you may miss an appointment with your doctor.”
“Sometimes not having the money for repairs puts your entire journey to stability on hold.” Said Patti Hirsch, founder of On the Road Again Thrift Store.
Individuals and families who qualify for On the Road Again program can receive up to $300.00 for car parts at our local repair shops. Hirsch will be contacting local repair car shop (licensed mechanics) who wants to volunteer their labor for the On the Road Again program.
Participants must show proof of title and insurance, and live in ChristianCounty. Funds will are allowed only if the vehicle is used for maintaining a job, pursuing an education or maintaining living for families on a fixed income. We want to help quickly so there is no down time. We don’t want someone to lose their job or become sicker waiting for paperwork.
Once a qualified candidate for On the Road Again is identified, an appointment with a partner mechanic is made to have the vehicle problem diagnosed. The estimate will be faxed to the Thrift Store for approval, and the partner mechanic will invoice the Thrift Store for parts up to $300.00.
Beyond getting individuals on the road again, On the Road Again will host workshops (with partner mechanics) to educate families on how to make informed purchases when it come to buying a vehicle (new or used), and how to know what’s appropriate for their budget, plus workshops on ways to make minor car maintenance and repairs on your own, and ladies/girls night out on cars 101.
Hirsch is looking for around 2,500 square feet or under of space to share with another business (could be a nursing home, school, church, the possibilities of collaboration locations are endless) or a free standing location at a very low cost or no cost at all in Christian county until the program and store is up and running. On the Road Again Thrift Store will be looking for donations and volunteers in the near future to fund the On the Road program.
Hirsch is no stranger to the Remarketing or non-profit industry. She is bringing over fifteen years of experience in management of a 30,000 sq foot thrift store in Independence, Mo, former Resource Director for Goodwill Industries in Sarasota, FL and past Entrepreneur of the year in Kansas City for her remarketing business. Hirsch has made Nixa her home.
