Conservative Republicans – something is amiss
By Dave Warren
Something is amiss, and it is is disturbing.
Former, and disgraced, Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, has surged ahead in the bid for the Republican nomination in their search for the White House.
His surge came on the heels of a confession by his ex-wife, that the Freddie Mack-backed mufti-millionaire had requested an open marriage, while carrying on a lengthy affair with his former mistress, to who he in now married.
For his part, Gingrich didn’t deny his womanizing, rather he decided to attack the media for reporting it. He lambasted reporters for bringing the subject up, saying it deflected from the real issues.[adsenseyu1]
What he didn’t do, was explain how a large number of “I will follow you like a lamb to slaughter” Republicans, claiming to be “conservative” fell for this nonsense.
At a meeting last week, I heard several area Republicans say how proud they were of Gingrich, and how well he attacked the press.
These same men go to church, say they are family-minded conservative Republicans.
Really?
Have we so quickly become a society that seeks to place a man of such low moral character as our leader. The leader of the free world?
Do we excuse all of the past actions of Gingrich, who is the only speaker of the house to resign in disgrace?
Is this the place that the pro-family, conservative Republicans have come?
To make matters worse, I have heard from more than a few so-called Christian conservatives that they are backing Gingrich. I used the phrase “so-called” for a reason. In the past few decades is seems fashionable to call oneself a conservative Christian without really showing any fruits of being either conservative, or Christian.
One of them had actually told me, just a few months ago, how ashamed he was of the Clinton administration and the former president’s affair. Now, he supports a man whose definition of family values includes sleeping with anyone he wishes. Hypocrisy seems rampant within the Gingrich camp and among his supporters.
Now, before everyone cries out that we should understand that all of the actions of Gingrich were in his past, and we should forgive, after all we’ve all made mistakes, keep this in mind.
He seeks to be our leader. The one who will represent us as a people. And, my friends, history does repeat itself.
It is true that the GOP slate of candidates leaves a lot to be desired and choosing one from them to beat Obama leaves one with a quandary. But most certainly, Gingrich, his mistress-now-wife, and his failed and flawed “Contract with America” should not remotely be considered as the party’s candidate.
Just remember, for as ye sow, so shall ye reap” and Gingrich has been sowing a lot. Can the reaping be far behind?
Of course, here, in the Ozarks, electing someone simply because the are Republican is a trend. Heck, we even reward those who have a mistress, leave a wife and marry the fallen woman. Sometimes, we even make them senators. Then each Sunday, we put on our pious hat, go to church, and say how we so highly value Family, God and Country.
Hypocrisy.
