Copper thefts foiled in Branson West

The increase of copper thefts across the nation has reached into Stone and Taney counties.
The latest round of thefts happened on Monday when the Branson West Police Department was dispatched to the area of the Notch Motel on East Highway 76, in reference
to possible copper thefts.
Officers located two male subjects on an area behind the motel and detained them. At the same time, Stone County Central Dispatch received a call from an unnamed
Branson West motel, indicating an additional theft of copper.
According to Branson West Chief of Police, Doug Rader, investigators from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Branson West Police Department with the theft
investigation.
“Evidence was collected at the scene,” Rader said. “A 32-year-old male was transported to the Stone County Jail. A 24-year-old male was transported to the Branson West
Police Department.”
Rader said the continued investigation led police to Taney County, where his department, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Branson Police and the Taney County Sheriff’s
Office seized a large amount of striped out copper and copper pipe.
The unidentified 32-year-old male is currently being held on a 24- hour hold for suspected burglary.
The 24-year-old male was booked and released.
Police are warning everyone to be aware of any unusual activity, especially around empty buildings.
:If you see any such activity, call your local law enforcement to report it,” Rader added.
