e-books a big hit at Kimberling Area Library

By: Betty Davis

As most of you know, in our efforts to keep up with technology we recently made “e-books” available through the library. In the few weeks we have had this new feature, we have had 110 patrons sign up with over 150 books checked out. These is no cost for this; it is another feature of all we offer our community. Just ask at the front desk for help and the smiling volunteer on duty will guide you through it.
Are you tossing your old printer cartridges in the trash? Now there is another way you can help your library. We will soon have an attractive collector bin for you to drop these in and we can recycle them for dollars to provide for our needs. So, don’t throw them out – bring them to us. It’s a “win-win” situation – you keep them out of the land fill and help your library.[adsenseyu1]

Another way to help is with our “Christmas Recycled” project. Each year Cathy Freeman, another volunteer, heads up this fun event. We ask that you bring in nice holiday items and Cathy arranges a bright display where we can shop. Now is the time to go through your holiday boxes and decide what you don’t use any more. Bring items to us and help make this “mini” fund raiser a success.

So many people help in so many ways to meet the needs that pop up. For instance, we needed some way to help children reach high enough to wash their hands. Erv Kufahl built two sturdy step stools of just the right height and Dixie Meyer, a local artist from Shell Knob, painted and decorated them in bright primary colors. Now the little ones can easily reach the sinks and they love to stand on the small benches.

Don’t forget our Saturday Story Time for children. November 12 will be our special “Second Saturday” and will feature local artist, Nils Bergh. Nils is calling this “Art for Kid’s Sake” and will start at 9:30. Mr. Berg does very unusual sculpture pieces and three of these are presently on display at the library.

Thanks to those of you who have renewed memberships or taken new ones in the Kimberling Library Association. We will soon be issuing our membership book and time is running out for your name to be included. As you know, these memberships form a vital part of making sure KAL is one of the very best reasons to live in this community.

Remember to find out all about what is happening – new books, activities, etc. Just go to our Web site: www.kalib.org. Our wonderful volunteer and computer Wizard, Sharon Clarke, keeps it all up to date.
