Gene Williams dead at 73 following trip to Branson

 

Gene Williams, founder of the Gene Williams Country died after coming to his Sherwood home after a trip to Branson Wednesday afternoon. He was 73 years old.
Williams was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital North and later pronounced dead.
Gene grew up in Dyess, AR where his neighbors included the family of Johnny Cash. Gene began a career in country music that spanned over five decades. He began as a DJ and was named Country Music DJ of the Year in 1961. He started his country music TV show in 1963 at KAIT in Jonesboro and it later began running in several markets, including KARK.
Ten years ago he began recording his weekly shows in Branson. In addition to his show, Gene also was involved working as an agent for several Grand Ole Opry stars. During his career, he was recognized with numerous awards for his contributions to country music. As an independent distributor, he introduced Lucas Oil Products to the state of Arkansas.
Williams is survived by 6 children and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
