Groups look to open more charter schools in Arkansas
Across Arkansas nonprofit groups have applied to open two schools in Osceola, along with one new school each in Little Rock, Jonesboro, West Memphis, Texarkana and Marianna.
Charter schools receive tax dollars but are run independently after receiving contracts from the state for up to five years. The state Department of Education can decide to renew contracts based on each school’s performance.
The state currently has 17 charter schools.
