Joplin High School Band Surprised with Gifts and Donations Raised After the Joplin Tornado
During an awards ceremony at the seventh annual Webbstock Marching festival, hosted by Webb City Cardinal Pride Band, September 24, 2011, Diana Williams, Director of Bands for Webb City, surprised Rick Castor, Band Director, Joplin High School, with the total amount of cash Webb City Band had collected in donations and raised on behalf of Joplin. Williams also presented Castor with a toy model of the John Deere “Gator” vehicle being donated by the Webb City Cardinal Pride Band..
Joplin’s current band vehicle still sits under the tornado rubble at the high school, and had been a critical part of transporting band instruments and equipment during shows and competitions.
Directly after the May 22, 2011 Tornado, the Webb City Cardinal Pride Band program began collecting and distributing donations and organized two separate rummage sale fundraisers in an effort to help bring much-needed “Band Aid” to the Joplin High School Band Program and its families devastated by the Joplin Tornado.
Webbstock VII, which is an all-day marching festival, showcases some of the finest bands in the region competing for top honors. More than 7,000 people were estimated to have attended this year’s competition.
