Joplin man indicted on brank fraud after stealing from woman who lost home to tornado

 

A federal grand jury has indicted Teddy Lawson, 51,  of Joplin on 20 counts of bank fraud and releated charges.
According to the indictment., made public Wednesday, Lawson is charged with targeting a woman whose home was destroyed by the tornado on May 22.
He allegedly was on her property in June to assist in the removal of scrap metal when he stole a checkbook belonging to the victim. Investigators said they believe he used 20 of those checks and spent almost $3,000 of the victim’s money across three states, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.
The Joplin Police Department and the U.S. SecretService investigated the case.
