Kimberling City Aldermen shift gears on Northwood II sewer demand
Following more than two months of discussion, the Kimberling City Board of Aldermen have reversed a decision they made last month which would have effectively required some residents to pay as much as $5,000 to hook up to the city sewer system. Residents impacted by the earlier decision would have had no recourse and were required to hook to the city’s system within 60 days.
At a workshop meeting this morning (Weds., Sept. 28, 2011) the adlermen decided to provide grinder pumps and their installation free of charge to the effective residents. It is a practice the city had done for every expansion up until Northwoods II.
Mayor Jason Hulliung, who was instrumental in getting aldermen to change their minds, said it’s a fairer way to go about the expansion. Noting the city had always installed the grinder pumps, he felt the cost for a homeowner to do it, and the 60-day time limit, were unreasonable.
Residents will still have to pay the normal hook up fees, and will have to have their septic system pumped and filled. The city will finance the cost of the normal hook up fees by spreading the cost out over several months of normal sewer bils – another practice they had offered to all previous sewer customers.
