Kimberling City’s Vision Plan well underway
As the students from Drury University undertake their study for a vision plan for the future of Kimberling City, a group of volunteer citizens are already at work assisting them and planning for a forward-looking vision for Stone County’s largest city.
On Sept. 9, the first meeting of the all-volunteer Kimberling City Visioning Committee met at City Hall to outline several issues they would like the students from Drury to consider. Those issues included:
Public Park and lake access.
Zoning – including consideration of signage and green spaces.
A bike and walking path along the lake portion of the city.
The building of a school to service students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.
The possibility of turning the old Harter House into a skating rink.
The infusion of light industry into the city.
The challenges of the city’s seven water systems.
According to Dave Liebenow, Executive Director of the Table Rock Lake Chamber of Commerce, and one of the driving forces in getting the vision study underway, the students have created a brochure announcing public meetings, which, he noted, will be held at the Wilcox Center in the Kimberling area Libratry, with the first such meeting held this past Tuesday.
Liebenow said he was encouraged by the efforts of the students and the committee during an address to the Kimberling City Board of Alderman on Tuesday morning.
The final vision plan is expected later this year and the work for the committee will actually begin in earnest flowing that plan’s release.
