Kimberling City sets 2012 budget – no raises

Kimberling City Aldermen passed the 2012 budget during a regular meeting Tuesday.
The move came following a presentation by Martin Eastwood, city treasurer, in which he highlighted how well the city had done in managing the 2011 budget, despite a decrease of $30,000 in sales tax revenue.[adsenseyu1]
Aldermen had worked throughout the year to adjust the 2011 budget in response to the decrease.
The adopted budget does not provide for any raises for city employees and health insurance will need to be addressed in a work session some time in 2012, Eastwood said.
The 2012 budget provides for no major capital expenditures and focuses on maintaining the city during what could be a difficult year.
Eastwood said he does not expect any increase in sales tax collections next year.
In other news, Alderwoman Betty Kowalewich, the only Democrat serving, said she would not be seeking another term.
She said she had already listed her house for sale and would be moving to Kansas City, closer to her children.
The decision was based on the health of her husband and her need to be closer to family.
“I love this city and I love the people here,” she said. “But it has come to this time and the move I need to make.”
Alderman Albert Bray has filed as a candidate for mayor, following incumbent Jason Hulliung’s decision not to run again.
