Well almost everyone in the region is familiar with Honor Flight, there is a second program that provides WWII veterans the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. and see the memorial in their honor. However, unlike Honor Flight, Honor Tour provides a lot more – including a full weekend in the nation’s capitol.
For two Kimberling City veterans, the opportunity to see Washington, D.C. came around this week. Ralph Warner and Robert Sheets left yesterday afternoon for their trip, which begins with a trip to Poplar Bluff where they will spend the evening at Drury Inn. On Friday, it’s a breakfast, a send off celebration and a ride to St. Louis where they will catch their flight.
The trip, lodging and all meals are provided free of cost to the veterans. Funds are raised twice a year to provide the WWII vets the opportunity.
The two from Kimberling City will be accompanied by Gary Sheets, son of Robert.
