Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) is preparing to launch Relational Ministry classes in Forsyth, Kimberling City and Branson next week. Relational Ministries is an eight-week, biblically based money management program designed to benefit individuals as well as couples. Those who participate learn the basics of tracking income and expenses, setting up a budget, cutting expenses as well as learning how to budget within a family and set common goals.
Love INC is a church based not for profit organization whose mission is to mobilize the church to transform lives in the name of Christ. “This is our fourth year of offering Relational Ministry classes and we’ve had over 100 families complete the eight weeks of class so far,” said Anita Prochnow, Executive Director.[adsenseyu1]

While the program is geared toward working couples and individuals, there are no income guidelines to participate. “We have had families that live on disability and we’ve had families that make six-figure incomes in the class,” said Prochnow. There is a lot of accountability built into the program. After the first eight weeks, participants can choose to continue for up to one year in the program and are assigned a volunteer budget mentor who meets weekly with the family. At that time, they have to agree to let their checkbooks, debit and credit cards be locked up until their next weekly meeting with their budget mentor. “That helps curb the impulse spending that gets so many people into trouble,” says Prochnow.

There is also a lot of reward for continued participation. Families have the opportunity to earn vouchers for attendance, completing homework assignments and meeting with their budget mentor. The vouchers can be used to “purchase” food for the week, gasoline and sundries from local partner church ministries. “The program is about wrapping the church around families to help them through hard times and to demonstrate Christ’s love in practical ways,” says Cally Ross, Office Manager.
