Missouri falls to Longhorns in soccer

The University of Missouri soccer team fell 2-1 to the Texas Longhorns Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium. The loss dropped Mizzou’s record to 9-5 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 Conference play, while Texas improved to 8-5 and 2-2.

Missouri opened scoring in the 13th minute when freshman Kaysie Clark passed to junior Haley Krentz, who unleashed a rocket from 25-yards out.

The Tigers’ goal would not be enough, however, as Texas responded with two first half goals, from Lexi Harris and Allison Smith, for a 2-1 Longhorn advantage at the half.

Mizzou pushed for the equalizing goal in the second half, but could not convert.

Redshirt freshman McKenzie Sauerwein made nine saves in goal for the Tigers.

Missouri takes a break from Big 12 play to take on SIU-Edwardsville Friday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Walton Stadium. Then the Tigers head back on the road to continue conference action in Waco, Texas, to play Baylor on Friday Oct. 14.
