Missouri waters turn deadly over holiday weekend
The Missouri Water Patrol has recovered the body of 93-year-old Alton Mos of Kansas City today. Police said Moss was last seen fishing from a dock at Lake of the Ozarks around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. His hat was found in the water and his fishing gear was located on the dock. His body was found by divers on Monday morning.
22-year-old Julio Mendoza drowned at Smithville Lake Sunday. Police said witnesses said he was swimming across a cove when he began struggling, went under the water and didn’t surface. Mendoza was from Kansas City.
A 17-year-old St. Louis teen was seriously injured at Lake of the Ozarks when the lpersonal water craft he was operating, along with another teen, crossed the wake of a larger craft, causing the two to be ejected from the craft. Police said Timothy O’Toole was transported to Lake Regional Hospital.
On Saturday, two other Missourians were killed on the Osage River. Police said Curtis Libbert, 33, of Tebbets, and Alvan Blackford, 46, of Russellville were killed during a three-boat accident.
