MoDOT ready if snow hits Thursday

Weather: Forecasts show the possibility of snow, high winds and low temperatures starting at about 7 p.m. Wednesday evening and lasting into Thursday morning. The front will enter southwest Missouri from the north and sweep southeast, leaving the area by about 4 a.m. Thursday.
Areas of Bates, Vernon, Barton, St. Clair, Henry, Benton and Hickory counties could get 1 inch to 2 inches of snow. Lesser amounts are expected further south. Some freezing may occur on driving surfaces in various locations, starting first on bridge floors.

MoDOT Plans: Partial crews will go on duty starting between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. across the region and will be prepared to plow and treat roads if needed.

Crews will be out starting:

* 7 p.m. — Butler, Nevada, Lamar, Carthage, Stockton, Greenfield, Mount Vernon, Bolivar, Buffalo, Republic and Springfield.

* 7:30 p.m. — Clinton, Osceola, El Dorado Springs, Cole Camp, Warsaw and Preston.

* 9 p.m. — Joplin.

* 10 p.m. — Marshfield, Seymour and Ozark.

* 10:30 p.m. — Neosho, Anderson, Monett, Cassville, Galena and Lampe.

* Crews will be called out if needed at Branson and Bradleyville.

Caution: Be prepared for minor snow accumulations or freezing moisture.

* Icy conditions could develop quickly in many areas simultaneously. Bridges and overpasses will become slick first.

* Expect high winds and blowing snow which could reduce visibility.

* Check weather, road conditions and news reports early Thursday.

* Be prepared to leave for work or school earlier than normal.
