ONLINE PETITION SAVES ELDERLY MISSOURI COUPLE’S HOME
JPMorgan Chase Bank has officially agreed to a loan modification for Kim and Lotus Cassidy, an elderly Missouri couple, after thousands of people signed Kim’s popular petition campaign on Change.org.
Kim Cassidy launched the Change.org campaign to save her home after her husband suffered a debilitating heart attack, leaving the couple on a limited fixed income and unable to make their mortgage payments. [adsenseyu1]After almost 3,000 people, mostly Missourians, signed Kim’s petition campaign to save her home, JPMorgan offered the couple a loan modification with reduced interest and a lower monthly payment.
“I want to express all our gratitude to all those at Change.org for the encouragement and assistance you have given us,” Kim said to supporters of her campaign. “What a great gift you all have given us: our home!”
News of the online petition campaign’s success will likely inspire other homeowners to launch similar campaigns using Change.org, the world’s fastest growing platform for social change. Other homeowners across the country have also successfully pushed their banks to modify their home loans and avoided foreclosure using Change.org.
“With millions of foreclosures anticipated for 2012, it’s obviously hard for big corporations like JPMorgan to put a human face to each stack of foreclosure paperwork,” said Change.org Senior Organizer Tim Newman. “Using Change.org campaigns, homeowners like Kim can share their personal stories and rally thousands of people together, forcing banks to take notice. It’s fascinating to watch.”
