Online Voting for Taney County Extension Council Begins Jan. 15

Starting Jan. 15, 2012, Taney County residents will have the opportunity to vote for 10 University of Missouri Extension Council candidates.

The Taney County Extension Council functions much like a school board. Elected members provide budget oversight, assist in developing programming, review policies and evaluate the professional staff, among other duties.

The newly elected council members will assume their duties in March 2012. The annual council election is mandated by Missouri State Statutes.[adsenseyu1]

This will be the fourth year county residents will be able to vote online instead of using a paper ballot. Any Taney County resident age 18 or older can vote by clicking on the 2012 Council Election link at www.extension.missouri.edu/taney on or after Jan. 15.

Voters will be asked to select an Eastern or Western district ballot based on their past voting in county elections. Once there, residents will be asked to vote for five council candidates for the eastern district or five on the west.

Online voting will be open from January 15-27, 2012, according to Wayne Dietrich, county program director for the local University of Missouri Extension office. Dietrich adds that the link will only be active during the above dates.

Residents without internet access, or those who would prefer a paper ballot, can request one by calling 1-417-546-4431 (toll free1-888-504-0443) or visiting the Taney County Extension Office at 122 Felkins Ave. in Forsyth from Jan. 17 to Jan. 27.

Paper ballots must be postmarked or returned to the Taney County Extension office no later than Jan. 27, 2012. The office is located just east of the new Taney County Judicial Center.

Biographies of the candidates will be available on the website or can be requested by calling or stopping by the Extension office.
