Police nab “Bearded Bandit”
Police confirm that they’ve arrested the man known as “the Bearded Bandit”, suspected of robbing several banks in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Jason Day, 39, was arrested in his home on Friday.
He’s suspected of robbing four banks in Oklahoma, two in Arkansas, and one in Joplin last July. Day has been charged with multiple counts of armed robbery.
Fort Smith investigators said late Friday that they’ve been notified by the FBI that an anonymous tip was received identifying 39-year-old Jason Andrew Day as the so-called “fake beard bandit.”
Investigators said Day, a resident of Tulsa, Okla., was identified as the man in surveillance video by witnesses from two recent incidents at banks in Fort Smith.The most recent robbery was on Tuesday at Liberty Bank. On July 22, police investigated an attempted armed robbery at the River Town Federal Credit Union.
Investigators said together with the FBI, facts were presented to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Day, charging him with robbery.
Agents with the FBI and Fort Smith investigators traveled to Tulsa on Friday evening and arrested him.Day was being held at the Tulsa Police Department, where investigators were conducting further interviews.
The investigation is ongoing.
