Proposed racetrack in Branson not a done deal

The proposed Branson Motorplex isn’t a “done deal” and may not even end up in Branson.
A developer of the proposed racetrack in Taney County isn’t 100 percent committed to the site, and is still looking at the possibility of opening it in Arkansas.
Russell Cook, who owns the 809-acre property, will have to wait until November before the county’s Board of Adjustment holds a public hearing on the issue.
The racetrack project, known as the Branson Motorplex, was approved by the Taney County Planning Commission in July, contingent on 18 conditions.

Development of the project has been inactive since June, and one source told The Ozarks Sentinel that Cook was still considering a site in Arkansas.

Last week Cook was cited for a violation of the Clean Water Act by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps claimed some of the fill from the project had ended up in nearby streams. Cook may apply for a permit or appeal the Corps findings.
Several busniess owners and residents opposed the project when the Planning and Zoning Commission initialy approved it. However, only one has filed an appeal. It is undecided whether that appeal will be heard as the filer, an alleged former partner of Cook’s, does not live near the project.
