Recycle, get flu shot and get rid of old drugs – all on one day
Stone County Health Department (SCHD) is partnering with the Crane Recycling Center, in Crane’s Industrial Park, on Saturday, Oct. 29th from 9:00 a.m. – noon to offer a “one stop shop” for the public to get a flu shot, dispose of expired or unused medications all while recycling plastics, paper, cans, etc.
SCHD will be administering flu vaccinations for adults only. Individuals are encouraged to wear a shirt that allows access to the upper arm and bring your Medicare/Medicaid card and Supplemental Insurance card, if applicable; the fee for non-Medicare/Medicaid covered individuals is $20.00. Women who are pregnant need to make an appointment with their physician to receive the flu vaccination. The SCHD does not have the flu vaccine recommended for pregnant women.
SCHD will also be on the premises to collect potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medications for safe disposal. This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Liquid medications such as cough syrups, eye and ear drops, etc. will be accepted. However, illicit drugs, syringes, or needles will not be accepted.
SCHD encourages everyone to participate in the events happening at the Crane Recycling Center this Saturday. You can help you, your family, and your community be healthy, safe, and environmentally sound by getting a flu shot (the best prevention method from getting the flu), safely disposing of your medications (eliminating a major source of abused prescription drugs and reducing the health hazards they pose), and recycling items (to keep our environment clean).
