REEDS SPRING HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS REVIEW

The Varsity Football team traveled to Bolivar on September 2 for their first Central Ozark Conference contest of the season. The Wolves fell to the state-ranked Liberators by the score of 71-7. Nathan Huston scored the lone touchdown of the evening for the Wolves in the second quarter on a three yard run. Caleb Asbill added the extra point. The Jr. Varsity and Freshmen teams opened their seasons by traveling to Springfield Catholic on August 29. Both teams picked up victories in their contests. The Varsity team returns to action on September 9 as they host Rogersville in a Central Ozark Conference contest while the Jr. Varsity and Freshmen teams travel to Rogersville on September 12. The seventh and eighth grade teams open their season on September 13 in contests at Marshfield.
The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Softball teams traveled to Forsyth on August 29 for a non-conference game. The Varsity team defeated the Lady Panthers by the score of 4-3. Marley Harmon and Kayleen Stevens each had three hits in the contest. Andrea Studer and Hailee Mason added two hits and one RBI apiece to aid the winning effort. Studer struck out ten Lady Panthers in the contest. The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Lady Wolves hosted Branson on August 30. The Varsity team fell by the score of 1-0. In a tightly contested game, Pitcher Andrea Studer allowed only one hit to the Lady Pirates. The Lady Wolves collected two hits in the game from Studer and Morgan Cantrell. The final contest of the week for the Softball teams was on September 1 at Bolivar. The game was the first Central Ozark Conference contest of the season. The Varsity team fell to Bolivar by the score of 3-0. Hailee Mason collected two hits in the contest for the Lady Wolves. The Jr. Varsity team defeated Forsyth but lost to Branson and Bolivar in their games for the week. The Varsity Lady Wolves will host their Reeds Spring Invitational Tournament on September 10 while both the Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams will host on Aurora on September 13 and travel to Hollister for COC games on September 15.
The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Volleyball teams opened their seasons with non-conference games at Mt. Vernon on August 30. The Varsity team lost in three games by the scores of 23-25, 25-21 and 21-25. Danielle Curnes had 13 Kills and Amy Taylor added 7 in the contest. Curnes and Kyleigh Lipasek each had 11 Digs while Sabra Boes added 10. The Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams opened their home schedule on September 1 against Springfield Kickapoo. The Varsity team lost in two games by the scores of 18-25 and 13-25. Danielle Curnes had five kills and Sabra Boes collected nine digs to lead the Lady Wolves. The Jr. Varsity team won their contest in two games against Mt. Vernon but lost in three games to Kickapoo. The Varsity ladies will participate in the Branson Tournament on September 10 while the Jr. Varsity team will travel to Marshfield for tournament action. The Lady Wolves will host Spokane in non-conference games on September 12.
The Cross Country teams opened their seasons by participating in the Strafford Invitational on September 3. The Varsity Boys team finished second out of fourteen schools in the five kilometer meet. Individual medalists for the Wolves included Andre Morganstern who finished eleventh overall with a time of 17:51 minutes and Tony Micelli who finished fourteenth with a time of 18:13 minutes. The Middle School Boys team captured first place in their division. Seventh grader Joel Gertson finished third in individual competition with a time of 11:04 minutes on the mile and a half course.
The Lady Wolves Tennis team hosted Joplin College Heights, Springfield Hillcrest and Willow Springs at Ledgestone Country Club during the week of August 29. The Varsity team fell to College Heights on August 29 by the score of 5-4. Dakota Shoemaker, Yun Han and Cheyenne Randle were victorious in singles competition while Shoemaker and Han combined for an 8-5 win in doubles competition. The Varsity ladies lost to Hillcrest on August 30 by the score of 7-2. Yun Han scored a victory in singles play while Katelyn Hubbard and Shelby Moser combined for a victory in their doubles contest. The Lady Wolves fell to Willow Springs by the score of 9-0 in their final contest of the week on September 1. The Varsity ladies competed in the Forsyth Tournament on September 3 finishing fourth in team competition. The Jr. Varsity team defeated College Heights and Hillcrest in their matches for the week. The Girls Tennis team will host Springfield Catholic on September 12 before traveling to Republic on September 15 and participating in the Monett Tournament on September 16.
