Reeds Spring Sports Review 9/26/2011 – Wolves win second football game of season

 

The Varsity Football team traveled to Hollister for a Central Ozark Conference game on September 23.  The Wolves picked up their second victory and first conference win of the season as they defeated the Tigers by the score of 35-25.  Nathan Huston scored the Wolves first touchdown on a five yard run in the first quarter.  Caleb Asbill kicked the extra point.  The Wolves scored twice in the second quarter as Quarterback Easton Flaugh connected with Aaron Allphin on a ten yard pass.  Josh Gronvold later scored on a 13 yard run.  Easton Flaugh ran for the extra two points which put the Wolves ahead by the score of 21-13 at the half.  The Wolves scored twice in the fourth quarter.  Jacob Lewallen ran 63 yards for one score and Nathan Huston had a 28 yard run for the second touchdown to help seal the win.  Caleb Asbill kicked the extra points following both scores.  The Jr. Varsity and Freshmen teams hosted Ava on September 19.  Both teams picked up victories for the night.  The seventh and eighth grade teams traveled to Rogersville on September 20.  The seventh grade team won their contest while the eighth grade team fell to the Wildcats in their game.  The Varsity Wolves will celebrate Homecoming as they host Buffalo in a Central Ozark Conference contest on September 30 while the Jr. Varsity team will travel to Buffalo on October 3.  The seventh and eighth grade teams will travel to Hollister on October 4 while the eighth grade team will host Marshfield on October 6 in a contest that was postponed earlier in the season due to weather.

The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Softball teams hosted Rogersville in a COC contest on September 20.  The Varsity team defeated the Lady Wildcats by the score of 7-1.  Pitcher Andrea Studer collected three RBI’s in the contest while Marley Harmon added two hits and one RBI and Bryanna Parham collected two hits to lead the victorious effort.  The Varsity team traveled to Cassville on September 21.  The Lady Wolves defeated Cassville by the score of 6-4.  Andrea Studer once again led the way with a triple and three RBI’s.  Sydney Mason collected two RBI’s and Hailee Mason had two hits and one RBI in the non-conference win.  The Varsity ladies competed in the Springfield Invitational Tournament on September 23 and 24.  The Lady Wolves won two games and lost three in tournament play as they defeated Springfield Hillcrest by the score of 9-1 and Waynesville by the score of 7-4.  The Varsity team lost to Monett by the score of 11-6 and to eventual tournament champion Liberty of Kansas City by the score of 5-1.  The Lady Wolves fell to Cassville in their final tournament game by the score of 6-5 in eight innings.  Marley Harmon led the way in the victory over Hillcrest with four hits and four RBI’s including a double and a triple.  Pitcher Andrea Studer struck out seven in the contest against Waynesville and added three RBI’s to help seal the win.  The Jr. Varsity team defeated Rogersville in their only contest of the week.  The Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams will conclude regular season competition on October 3 as they travel to Monett for a non-conference game.  The Varsity ladies will begin Class 3 District competition at Ava on October 5.

The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Volleyball teams traveled to Central High School at Springfield on September 19 for a non-conference contest.  The Varsity ladies defeated Central by the scores of 25-17 and 25-18.  Amy Taylor had five kills and Danielle Curnes added four to lead the attack.  Hannah Gertson collected 14 assists and Sabra Boes had 11 digs to aid in the victory.  The Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams hosted Nixa on September 22.  The Varsity team fell in two games to the Lady Eagles by the scores of 25-17 and 25-11.  Danielle Curnes led the Lady Wolves in kills with six while Hannah Gertson had 13 assists and Sydney Vernon collected eight digs.  The Jr. Varsity team won their contest against Central but lost in three games to Nixa.  The seventh and eighth grade teams hosted Rogersville on September 19 and traveled to Aurora on September 22.  Both teams fell to Rogersville but collected victories in their competitions at Aurora.  The Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams will host Springfield Parkview in a non-conference game on October 3 and Springfield Catholic in a Central Ozark Conference contest on October 6.  The High School teams will travel to Marshfield for COC play on October 4.  The seventh grade team will participate in the Marshfield tournament on October 1 while both seventh and eighth grade teams will travel to Bolivar for competition on October 6.

The Lady Wolves Tennis team traveled to Mt. Vernon on September 19 and participated in the Springfield Invitational Tournament on September 20.  The Varsity team lost to Mt. Vernon by the score of 8-1.  Autumn Ward and Shelby Moser combined for the team’s lone victory in doubles competition.  At the Springfield Tournament, Senior Yun Han posted two victories in singles play.  The Girls Tennis team will participate in Class 3 District competition during the week of October 3.  District team play will commence during the early part of the week while singles and doubles competition will take place at Rogersville on October 7.

The Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams participated in the Hermitage Invitational Meet on September 24.  The Boys team finished sixth overall out of fifteen schools participating.  Andre Morgenstern finished in sixth place with a time of 18:40.92 minutes.  Tony Micelli posted a time of 19:38.44 minutes and James Woodward ran the course in a time of 19:50.84 minutes.  Morgentstern, Micelli and Woodward all finished as medalists in individual competition.  The Varsity Girls team finished eighth overall in the meet.  Sam Akromis with a time of 23:43.59 minutes and Joey Ash with a time of 24:29.22 minutes captured medalist honors for the Lady Wolves.  The Boys and Girls teams will participate in the Camdenton Invitational Meet on October 1 before participating in the Springfield Catholic Invitational Meet on October 4.
