Reeds Spring Sports review – Sept. 19, 2011
The Varsity Football team traveled to Fair Grove for a non-conference contest on September 16. The Wolves fell to the Eagles by the score of 33-14. The Varsity team scored once in the third quarter as Quarterback Easton Flaugh connected with Aaron Allphin on a thirty-nine yard pass.
Tom Porch scored on a twenty yard run for the Wolves second touchdown in the fourth quarter. Flaugh ran for the two-point conversion. The Jr. Varsity team traveled to Rogersville while the Freshmen squad traveled to Cassville on September 12. Both teams fell to their opponents in their contests.
The seventh grade team opened their season with a loss at Marshfield on September 12. The eighth grade team had their contest at Marshfield postponed due to weather.
Their game will be made up at Reeds Spring on October 6. The Varsity team will travel to Hollister for a Central Ozark Conference game on September 23 while the Jr. Varsity team will host Hollister on September 26. The seventh and eighth grade teams will host Buffalo on September 27.
The Varsity Softball team hosted Aurora on September 13 and traveled to Hollister on September 15. The Varsity ladies defeated Aurora 3-0 in a non-conference game. Marley Harmon had three hits and two RBI’s to lead the offensive attack.
The Lady Wolves downed Hollister by the score of 7-0 in a Central Ozark Conference contest. Pitcher Andrea Studer had three hits including a triple, and one RBI while Sam Retherford collected two hits and two RBI’s to lead the offense. Studer struck out nine Lady Tigers in the game.
The Jr. Varsity team defeated Hollister in their only contest of the week. The Varsity team will participate in the Springfield Invitational Tournament on September 23 and 24 before traveling to Buffalo for a COC game on September 27.
The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Volleyball teams hosted Spokane in non-conference action on September 12 for their only competition of the week.
The Varsity team defeated the Lady Owls in three games by the scores of 25-27, 25-21 and 25-13. Amy Taylor had fourteen kills and Danielle Curnes added eleven to lead the Lady Wolves. Hannah Gertson collected 37 assists and Sabra Boes had twenty digs in the winning effort.
The Jr. Varsity team won their contest against Spokane. The seventh and eighth grade teams opened their seasons by traveling to Branson on September 12 and to Willard on September 15. The seventh grade team won both of their contests while the eighth grade team fell to both opponents. The Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams will host Hollister on September 27 and travel to Buffalo on September 29 in Central Ozark Conference play. The seventh and eighth grade teams will host Ava on September 26 and travel to Nixa on September 29.
The Lady Wolves Tennis team hosted Springfield Catholic on September 12 and traveled to Republic on September 15. The Varsity team defeated Catholic by the score of 5-4. Yun Han, Cheyenne Randle and Autumn Ward picked up victories in singles play while Han and Randle combined for a win in doubles competition.
Ward and Anna Moser picked up the other victory in doubles play. The Varsity team fell to Republic by the score of 9-0 while the Jr. Varsity team lost their only match of the week to Republic. The Varsity Lady Wolves participated in the Monett Tournament on September 16. The team placed 6th out of fourteen schools in the tournament. Yun Han finished third overall in her singles flight in tournament competition.
The Girls Tennis team will travel to Springfield Kickapoo on September 26 and Forsyth on September 27 before participating in the Central Ozark Conference Tournament at Rogersville on September 28.
The Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams participated in the Bolivar Invitational Meet on September 13. The Boys team finished eighth overall out of fourteen schools participating. Andre Morgenstern finished in ninth place and Tony Micelli finished fourteenth in individual competition to capture medalist honors. Morgenstern completed the course with a time of 18:37.96 minutes while Micelli posted a time of 18:55.25 minutes.
The Girls team finished fourth overall out of seven schools participating. Joey Ash had the top time for the Lady Wolves as she completed the course in 24:26.89 minutes. The Boys and Girls teams will participate in the Hermitage Invitational Meet on September 24 and the Branson Invitational Meet on September 27.
