The Varsity Football team opened the 2011 season by hosting Willow Springs at Carl Langley Field. The Wolves captured a victory in their season opener by the score of 27-18 over the Bears. The Wolves scored twice in the first quarter.
A 79 yard pass from Quarterback Easton Flaugh to Wide Receiver Dallas Dodson accounted for the first touchdown. Caleb Asbill kicked the extra point. The Varsity team scored a second time in the first quarter on a one yard run by Ryan Pearman.
In the second quarter, the Wolves took a 19-0 lead on a 24 yard pass from Flaugh to Wide Receiver Aaron Allphin. Willow Springs countered with a touchdown late in the second quarter and another midway through the third quarter to make the game close at 19-12 but the Wolves solidified their lead with a 16 yard pass from Flaugh to Allphin in the fourth quarter. The conversion attempt was good as Flaugh connected with Mason Weitzel in the end zone for the extra two points. The Varsity team will travel to Bolivar for a Central Ozark Conference contest at 7:00 PM on September 2 while the Jr. Varsity team will host Bolivar in a 5:30 PM game on September 5.
The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Softball teams opened their seasons by hosting Willard on August 22. The Varsity ladies lost their contest to Willard by the score of 5-4. Andrea Studer collected three hits and one RBI and Hailee Mason added two hits to lead the team offensively. Kenya Kling and Morgan Cantrell each had one hit and one RBI in the game. The Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams traveled to Republic on August 25. The Varsity team lost their contest by the score of 9-2. Sydney Mason collected two hits, including a home run, in the game. Andrea Studer and Marley Harmon each added two hits for the Lady Wolves while Studer struck out 11 Lady Tigers in the contest. The Varsity team competed in the Crowder College Invitational Tournament at Neosho on August 26 and 27. The Lady Wolves lost to Purdy by the score of 3-2 in eight innings in their first contest. Marley Harmon had two triples and one RBI while Jordan Ratliff drove in the other run for Reeds Spring. In the second game of the tournament, the Varsity ladies picked up their first win of the 2011 season as they downed Strafford by the score of 8-5. Kayleen Stevens helped lead the way offensively with a triple and three RBI’s while Sydney Mason added three hits and one RBI in the contest. Marley Harmon belted her first home run of the season to account for two RBI’s while Bryanna Parham added two hits in the victory. On the tournament’s final day, the Lady Wolves defeated East Newton by the score of 5-4. Sydney Mason had two hits (including a home run) and two RBI’s and Andrea Studer added two doubles and one RBI in the game. Marley Harmon had a triple and one RBI to aid in the winning effort. In the final game of tournament competition, the Lady Wolves fell to Cassville by the score of 6-1. Marley Harmon had three hits and one RBI while Hailee Mason collected two hits for the Varsity ladies. The Jr. Varsity team defeated Willard and lost to Republic in their contests for the week. The Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams will host Marshfield in Central Ozark Conference play on September 6 and Springfield Kickapoo in non-conference competition on September 9 before hosting the Reeds Spring Invitational Varsity Tournament on September 10.
The Lady Wolves Tennis team opened their season by traveling to Bolivar on August 22. The Varsity ladies fell to Bolivar by the score of 8-1. Yun Han picked up the lone victory for the Lady Wolves in singles competition. The Jr. Varsity team lost their contest. The Girls Tennis team will host Forsyth on September 8 before traveling to Monett on September 9.
