Republic School District reverses stand on book banning
The much-maligned Republic School District has reversed a stand it took against two books that had appeared in the school library.
Over the summer and at the request of a resident who had no children attending the district, the school board had removed Slaughterhouse-Five” by Kurt Vonnegut and Sarah Ockler’s “Twenty Boy Summer” from the shelves.
On Monday evening the board reversed the decision and reinstated the books noting that students would need parental permission to check them out.
The board voted 6-0 to adopt a revised draft of the book standards.
