Search continues for body of trooper
The search for a missing Missouri State trooper continued Saturday.
On Saturday morning, a cadaver dog picked up a scent in the search for the body of Missouri Highway Patrol trooper Frederick Guthrie.[adsenseyu1]
Patrol spokesman Sgt. Sheldon Lyons said the dog “made a positive indication” as searchers looked for the trooper’s body in a remote area of Holt County.
Authorities think Guthrie, 46, and his patrol dog, Reed, were swept away by floodwater Aug. 1 near Big Lake. Lyons said the cadaver dog detected a scent close to where Reed was found Aug. 2, roughly 50 yards from the trooper’s patrol vehicle.
On Friday, searchers started draining water from a four-acre hole caused by flooding. The draining of the pool may not be accomplished until early this week. The process has been slowed because the pumps must be repeatedly repositioned to keep adequate suction.
