Sprinklers prevent major fire at area nursing home

On Dec. 5, at approx. 8 a.m. the Western Taney Co. Fire Protection District responded to the Point Lookout Nursing Home, 11103 Historic Hwy 165, Hollister, for report of a fire alarm.
Upon arrival firefighters were met by staff who stated there was a fire in room 110 but that the fire was out, however the wing was full of smoke.
Residents were being moved to an area of the building not affected by the smoke.
Investigation showed a fire in room 110 activated a sprinkler head which extinguished the fire. The fire appeared to have started in an in-wall heating unit and spread to a bed, curtains, and wall.
The room received heavy fire, smoke, and water damage with the rest of the wing receiving smoke and water damage. Firefighters assisted staff in removing smoke and water from the wing. No one was injured in the incident.
