Stone County Assessor has mailed forms to property owners for 2012

Brad Hudson, Stone County Assessor, has mailed the forms to property owners for listing their personal property, which is subject to assessment for the 2012 assessment year. NOTE: If you do not receive a form please contact the assessor’s office. Forms may also be printed from the county’s website. By March 1, 2012, every owner or holder of personal property must report on the form or attached to the form provided by the assessor, all taxable personal property, which was owned or held by the person or business on January 1, 2012.
Those not returning a completed list on time are subject to a penalty.
“I don’t like to see anyone have to pay a penalty and, since State Statutes don’t provide us with much discretion to waive penalties, we’re making every effort to remind people to return their list by the March 1 deadline,” Mr. Hudson said.
Penalties range from $10 to $100, depending upon the value of the property.
Taxpayers will notice that this year’s form has a little different look than those that have been used in the past. This change was authorized in order to keep printing costs down and save the county money.
Assessor Hudson suggests that property owners fill out the form, sign it and put it in the mail as soon as possible after it’s received. “The longer you put it off, the easier it is to forget,” he said.
Taxpayers who would like assistance with filling out the form or who have any questions are encouraged to contact the Stone County Assessor’s office at (417) 357-6141.
