“This long-running conference continues to equip livestock producers to better manage their operations and provide quality beef products for consumers,” said Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension agronomy specialist based in Galena. “The program will focus this year on sound beef production practices that balance the cost of inputs against today’s market potential in the livestock industry.”
Mark Harmon of the Joplin Regional Stockyards will provide tips for developing skills in value-added calf marketing. Eldon Cole, a livestock specialist with University of Missouri Extension, will review bull selection and maintenance.
Andy McCorkle, also a livestock specialist with MU Extension, will discuss alternative winter feeding options. Gordon Carriker, an agriculture business specialist with MU Extension, will focus on ways to control farm input costs.
Melissa White and Kevin Wray of the Stone County Soil and Water Conservation District will give a farm program update.
There is no charge to attend this event. A ribeye steak meal will be provided courtesy of the Southwest Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, Stone County Soil and Water Conservation District, Stone County Farm Bureau, First Home Savings Bank, Stone County National Bank, V-Mar Farm Store and Joplin Regional Stockyards.
Participants must preregister by Feb. 13 to reserve their meal by calling the Stone County Extension Center at 417-357-6812.
