Stunt pilot killed at Kansas City Airshow

A pilot was killed after crashing during the Kansas City Air Expo Air Show at the Kansas City Wheeler Downtown Airport.

A Kansas City air show has abruptly ended after a small plane crashed while performing a stunt, killing the pilot.
Aviation Department spokesman Joe McBride says the pilot couldn’t pull out of a maneuver Saturday and crashed the biplane into a grass field at a downtown airport airfield.

No spectators were injured.

Authorities identified the pilot as Bryan Jensen.
Witnesses said that the small, red biplane was performing aerobatic maneuvers, such as loops and spiral stunts. It did a downward spiral but failed to pull up.

McBride says the accident is the first fatal crash at the annual Kansas City Aviation Expo Air Show.

He says spectators were asked to leave Wheeler Downtown Airport after the crash.

Show organizers are holding a news conference later Saturday to discuss details of the incident.

Rain initially delayed the start of air demonstrations Saturday morning.

McBride says tickets for Saturday’s event will be honored Sunday.
