Tulsa and Joplin Habitat for Humanity to address issue of 7,500 homes destroyed by tornado
The Tulsa and Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity teams are joining forces with the City of Joplin for a special rebuilding project that draws upon support from Tulsans and surrounding communities. The full extent of the project will be unveiled at a news conference at 11 a.m. central time Thursday, Sept. 8, in Joplin.
Who: Tulsa Habitat for Humanity, Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity, the City of Joplin, businesses and other individuals are taking part in this project. Joplin Mayor Mike Woolston and City Manager Mark Rohr, and other community leaders will be at the news conference.
What: Learn about a new project to help rebuild the Joplin area following the devastating impact of the May 22 tornado.
When: 11 a.m. central time Thursday, Sept. 8
Where: 2209 Kentucky Street in Joplin
Why: As the citizens of Joplin move into the rebuilding phase of their recovery following the devastating EF-5 tornado that hit their community on May 22, the need to help the victims without homes has become evident. Of the nearly 7,500 homes destroyed, some 43 percent were uninsured. The project to be announced addresses the need for housing.
